Ronald A. Bertino, CPA, is a partner of the Litigation Support Services Group. As partner, he leads the administration of class action matters related to anti-trust and securities settlements.
Currently, Ron heads a civil case for the SEC against seven Specialists firms, interfacing with the SEC, the New York Stock Exchange and many clearing firms and nominees to identify damaged investors. He directs the administration of the disgorgement funds and civil penalties, which are in excess of $247 million. Distributions occurred on a rolling basis with the sixth and scheduled final distribution having been made.
In the Currency Conversion Fee Anti-trust Litigation, Ron oversees the administration of a $336 million settlement with claims submitted for the distribution to select credit and debit card holders charged with a transaction fee on foreign exchanges. A total in excess of 10.2 million claim forms were submitted by claimants.
In a settlement between the Securities & Exchange Commission and Knight Securities LP, Ron is partner-in-charge of administering disgorgement funds, prejudgment interest and civil penalties in excess of $66 million. Distribution has occurred in this matter.
Prior to joining the Litigation Support Services Group, Ron was a partner of the Healthcare Services Group. His main responsibility was to manage audits of all types of healthcare providers on behalf of fiscal intermediaries throughout the country. He assisted clients in filing appeals related to TEFRA target limitations and Medicare reimbursement rate exceptions. He has consulted and served as expert witness on healthcare cases resulting in settlements of over $60 million.
Ron graduated from Drexel University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of CPAs. He is a member of the advisory board of Girard Partners Ltd, serves on the Education Committee of the Philadelphia Police Athletic League, and is treasurer of the Granda Flora Estates Community Association.
